i have file server holds roaming profiles users.  lately, i've seen spike in amount of data on server.  of course of directories not accessible via administrator account.  can perform windows backup , see data, there many directories, it's going take me long time find culprit.  i've tried folder size program see if see folder, can see account logged in can see.  does know of program able access files same way backup count of data size in each folder? unfortunately that's price pay selecting "give users exclusive access folder" option in folder redirection gpo. it's great security....  not great ease of management. depending on size of environment, may viable spend time creating script that: 1. changes ownership of folder , sub-objects administrator 2. gives read/write permissions administrator , %username% ensure user can still data. (this gets pushed sub-objects well). once these 2 items done folders in question, should able run appl

on win server 2003 small business server domain, have user who's using win7 pro. approximately month ago put laptop on domain, yesterday afternoon, couldn't login pc. error @ login screen was: “ the trust relationship between workstation , primary domain failed .” (or similar statement) at company, ran same problem. in case , above case, removing laptop domain , re-joining solved problem. but, what's causing trust issue? laptops have these facts in common: both laptops, manufactured different makers they have used both wireless , network cables @ various points in time connect companys' domains the users take laptops home , use them on home wireless networks both on sbs 2003 server networks/domains both organizations use symantec sep protection they both have same win7 os version i haven't had problem winxp pc's after "solving" (or working around situation), i went user's add/remove programs , saw .net framework client 4 had been instal

hi, i've seen above error 2008r2 servers , hoped fixed in server 2012 had again today on small test machine. if allocate memory vm fits physical ram of host following error: cannot start vm cannot allocate sufficient memory or something. my test machine has 16gb ram if create 2 vms each 7gb ram 1 won't start above error. if reboot host can start them. this leads me believe disk ram caching of windows tripping memory allocation. because after reboot cache gets cleared , can start them. any idea if can disable filecaching? don't need on vm host. kind regards, kor i can confirm behavior well. before upgraded server 2008r2 server 2012, able run of hyper-v machines @ same time, , reboot 1 whenever needed to. however, after installed server 2012 (i went storage server 2012 hyperv test environment since has both file server role , hyper v available), noticed unable start same amount of vm's (i imported vm's 2008r2 environment), received mess

my company has 2 domains, 1 old wing , new wing, , has changed domain controller nt4 server 2003 r2 in old wing. after finishing data migration, can't see domain of new wing in network neigbourhood can't browse resources of domain. however, can map share folders of domain if using computer name after added host record of dns. moreover, can see other workgroups in network neigbourhood. anyone can tell me what's going on , how can can browse resources of domain of new wing through network neigbourhood of old wing. many thanks alex Windows Server  >  Platform Networking

i in process of moving tasks indicated above. i have 12 tasks running in windows 2003, not in 2012. 1.  i found samba on older linux server connecting incompatible windows.  i worked around creating windows share , connecting linux server file system. 2.  i found windows 2012 server had issue running vbs script files.  i generated batch file called script. 3.  i found run while user logged in.  i found because bat command put session in interactive mode.  i need run these jobs without user logged in! now, can go no further.  i cannot run vbs , cannot run bat.  what options have left? ok... if cannot map drive, cannot unc path, right?  no, not correct. drive mappings user specific plus not exist when no 1 logged on. why better use unc paths. yes, scripting forums best bet.       regards, dave patrick .... microsoft certified professional microsoft mvp [windows] disclaimer: posting provided "as is" no warranties or guarantees , , confers

we have windows server 2008 r2 print server , boss , cannot figure out how restart spooler 1 printer.  it not feasible restart entire print spooler bringing down our printers because of 1 printer hung up.  we tried putting drivers isolated mode, cannot find option allow reset 1 printer. does have idea?   if not option on windows 2008, shame on microsoft. you can't. print spooler need restarted. issue behing caused bad driver usually. does printer host based way ? we upgrading our "office server" shares print server windows server 2003 r2  to  windows server 2008 r2. to test migration process decided migrate 1 printer , see how goes on.  although migration succesfull, unable remove old printer connection old server. the old printer deployed using site policy under user config > policies > windows settings > printer connections.  when came migrate printer used print manager on w2k8 server , exported config/drivers/port , imported them on new server, deleted printer conenction in gpo removed printers control panel on users machines , deleted port, printer , share off old server. deployed printer on new server using print mangement on win2k8 (this great!) and users started receiving deployment - great!  however, old server offline, users have got greyed out printer yellow exclamation mark pointing old printer on old server, don't have gpo's anywhere deploying , it's not present within site policy nor can por
