i running multiple windows server 2003 domains under 1 forest.  have verified don't have win nt/win 2k domain controllers have ran adprep /forestprep on schema master and /domainprep on the root domain need upgrade.  have verified forestprep , domainprep have completed successfully.  not sure if /gpprep has been run in past, based on other technet forums, shouldn't prevent me upgrading schema.  connected infrastructure master when right clicking on domain , go raise domain functional level, shows domain running @ windows server 2003 , highest possible functional level.  child domians need have schema upgraded before root domain can upgraded? have ideas on might preventing me continuing schema upgrade. so did prep, can verify schema version    http://portal.sivarajan.com/2010/03/active-directory-schema-version.html you won't able raise functional level 2008 until dcs running 2008.  what adprep did schema ready 2008 domain controller.   thanks   mike http://

i have hyper-v running on 2008 cluster. @ moment have 3 luns attached. when first setup our active directory environment (after migrating novell) few years ago, installed enterprise certificate authority on 1 of our domain controllers running windows 2008 standard.  i'm in process of setting internet based management sccm , have run roadblock.  a certificate authority on windows 2008 standard not support version 2 , 3 certificate templates.  seeing need create custom templates , setup auto-enrollment workstations on our domain must find solution.  it appears windows 2008 r2 standard , above supports functionality.  i've read can migrate certificate authorities 1 server long keep ca name intact, if destination server has different hostname source server?  the domain controller not being decommissioned cannot spin-up new server same hostname ca.  are there ramifications of moving ca server different hostname?  i've read various articles , support posts , i'm confused issues, if any, cause.  i appreciate can provide, can finish roll

i'm tyring update ad-integrated dns dr procedures new 2008 dcs. i see lot of hits on web seem necessitate "signing" dns zones after doing zone export performed following steps in lab (two 2008 dcs) without problem....what caveats...if of not signing? i opened elevated command prompt , browsed %windir%\system32\dns , exported zone file: dnscmd /zoneexport <zone name> <zone file name> to restore, first deleted existing zone… dnscmd /zonedelete <zone name> /dsdel /f i added zone primary… dnscmd /zoneadd <zone name> <zone type> /file <zone file name> /load lastly changed zone type ds primary (ad integrated). dnscmd /zoneresettype <zone name> /dsprimary i went properties of restored zone , selected proper "dynamic updates" (i.e. nonsecure , secure) scavenging settings set default when zone recreated. all seemed have worked well.  can validate approach or point out risks. thanks, david w. king tec

hello , have 2 policy in our environment trusted sites. 1 let user add trusted sites , other don't. target : let users add trusted sites on gp don't allow @ moment . gpo setting trusted sites of internet explorer in our environment : method 1 : gp name these setting “xx” (method 1 ) users part of group won’t have ability able add trusted sites option greyed out due following setting used in above policy : “user configuration\administrative templates\windows components\internet explorer\internet control panel\security page”. -double-click on site zone assignment list, enable setting , add trusted sites. à using method, end-users not able add own sites zone. options add sites on client machine greyed out after ie7 version. in ie6, appears not grey , seems end-user still can add other web sites. in fact, find update disappear after re-enter “internet properties” page. method 2 : gp name these setting : “yy” (method 2)

hello gents, have problem. have stand alone w2k3 server need modify local security policys on, open editor , try remove account policys modify , allows me so. apply changes no errors. when close out local security policy editor , open accounts had removed certian policies have been added in. how edit policy without security groups getting added policy list? server not connected domain there no superceeding group policy. making changes administrator account. when delete accounts users see if removed policy, removed, replaced s- , bunch of numbers follow. or insight appriciated. thanks, mike   hi, you can try remove below folder , re create policies , check if stays %systemroot%\system32\grouppolicy\ if want reset security policy http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;313222 Windows Server  > 

i installed new server 1 of clients few months (new windows 2012 server). @ time, of local workstations running win 7 no issues. now, 1 of desktops upgraded win 10 , user intermittently gets error: location not available s:\ unavailable. if location on pc, make sure device or drive connected or disc inserted, , try again. if location on network, make sure you're connected network or internet, , try again. if location still can't found, if might have been moved or deleted the other pcs in office running win 7 not error. user says has click "ok" , can access mapped drive, error keeps returning time time , wants fixed. what have changed in win 10 , can done resolve issue? hi, how user folder mapped? test re-map folder command line "net use x: \\server\share /persistent:yes" see if work. i assume authentication issue. if issue persists may need capture network trace detailed information when user fail access share.  also if windows 10 s
