Browsing Server Resources

i have problem i'm trying understand...

i have windows server 2008 running ad server/domain controller , print server. workstations (win7 , xp) on domain can access printers , shares without issues.

there workstations (xp) on different ad server/domain controller don't have control over. though these workstations in same building workstations on domain, on different networks/subnets. in other words, print server , workstations on same subnet. workstations don't have control on over different subnet can share network resources network drives going through map network wizard , entering right domain credentials authenticate.

hope i've described above clear enough. recently, request came in install printers on print server workstations have no control over. mind you, these workstations in question on domain have no rights to.

when try install 1 of printers using script or batch file, error message stating there's group policy preventing me adding printer. when tried manually using add printer wizard, get's username , password complains there's group policy preventing me adding printer. that's understandably since think these workstations might have gpo preventing outsiders speak add printers different network/subnet.

this confusing part. 1 of users discovered can browse print server doing: \\servername , in there printers. can right click on printer , connect printer without problems. since workstation on different domain, expected him login prompt authenticate didn't. went around 10 different workstations , try browse server doing user did , hit or miss. out of 10 workstations, 6 able browse , install printers without authenticating. other 4 authentication prompt. type in username/password , shows shares , printers; there printer can added well. problem when users reboots workstations printer cannot accessed since complains "access denied". workstations able add printers without authenticating fine after reboot.

my question why users able without authenticating , other not? , possible keep credentials cached doesn't cleared out after reboot. yes, check box remember password doesn't remembered.

thanks in advance.

if have no control on other domain or client machines, why need install printers on domain clients?

do have trust relationship created between domain , other domain, , if kind of trust created?
