Backup cluster hive 0.Cluster

hi,

when backing our server 2008 r2 failover cluster, error message what says cannot backup 0.cluster hive registry (error comes node holding the witness disk). question is, neccessary backup hive registry? since it's copy original registry hive.

hi admin,

correct - far can remember "normal" systemstate backup of nodes totally enough able restore cluster nodes/configuration. correctly identified cluster hive "replica".

understanding backup , restore in failover cluster

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771973.aspx

for restore scenarios there 2 different types, "un-authoritative" , "authoritative" restore difference in cluster configuration.

authoritative -> rolling cluster configuration

non-authoritative -> without cluster configuration -> node re-join leave current cluster configuration

backing , recovering failover cluster configuration database (with wbadmin, windows server backup)

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/clustering/archive/2008/01/20/7176982.aspx

if have further questions please let know.

you should definitly work out backup , restore scenario before go production and important point here is, test out!

ps: fyi - "only" talking cluster configuration not data hosted within cluster a.e. data on shared disks!

regards

ramazan
