Installing a printer on RDS (logged on as user)

i have users logged on rds (windows 2008 r2 server) and trying install printer shared print queue on server. when user double-clicks on print queue install session, recieve error: windows cannot connect printer. access denied.

they have access , permissions print queue, finding out there policy not allowing them install driver. if log on admin , install print queue/driver, works fine. log on user, , works since driver on rds.  windows 2003 server, there local group policy setting can turn on allow users install printers. have turned policy on new rds, yet doesn't seem , continue recieve same message.

i must missing policy or permission setting needs turned on allow users install print drivers on server cannot seem find it.

any appreciated!

hi,

to change driver installation security settings printers deployed using group policy

  1. open gpmc.
  2. open gpo printer connections deployed, , navigate user configuration, policies, administrative templates, control panel, , printers.
  3. right-click point , print restrictions, , click properties.
  4. click enabled.
  5. clear following check boxes:
    • users can point , print these servers
    • users can point , print machines in forest
  6. in when installing drivers new connection box, select not show warning or elevation prompt.
  7. scroll down, , in when updating drivers existing connection box, select show warning only.
  8. click ok.

after configuring these settings, users able receive printer connections , drivers user accounts using group policy, without prompts or warning. users receive warning before updated drivers print server installed, not need belong local administrators group install updated drivers.
