Windows Server 2008 : Configure an Authoritative Time Server

it seem there simple solution. however, have read many articles , found conflicting information. example, kb816042, states @ beginning "we highly recommend configure authoritative time server gather time hardware source". however, after taking me through steps setup time service use hardware clock, article states :"the pdc master must not configured synchronize itself." seems me if set sync internal hardware clock synching (time not coming external source).

my objective straightforward. want setup 2008 server (pdc) function authoritative time server. need set gets time either hardware source or external source.

then, want group policy apply client workstations , bdc obtain time pdc.

in domain clients nothing do, dcs sync dc holding pdcemulator fsmo and other domain machines use 1 available dc.

so configure pdcemulator external timesource follows:

w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:peers /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update

with "peers" can set time source, either dns name (time.windows.com) or ip address reliable time source.
