WSUS / Reporting errors since update (edited)

since last months patches applied have had real problem 1 of wsus servers (2k3 r2). suspect failed update of .net server rebooted unexpectedly during own update process before carrying on , finishing applying of patches.

since server randomly reboots 'stop' error (maybe 1 time per day) logs 1002 system error.

i have following errors logged occur every minute or error 12002 states 'reporting web service' not working (the12002 error occurs once on boot).

i did uninstall wsus (first time leaving the database intact , second time removing including database) , re-install it. when uninstalled had none of above error messages , no crashes. install wsus again same effects come back. incidently uninstalling wsus caused stop error , system reboot both times tried it.

i have manually downloaded of .net updates last months patch release , manually installed them (in case 1 patch partially installed before had original crash during update). has made no difference @ either.

the other clue can see av system (mcafee vse 8.7) picking continued activity c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\w3wp.exe writing executable files windows directory (note vse not blocking file writes logging occuring). files being written going c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\temporary asp.net files\reportingwebservice\884d2df4\198a93f5\assembly\tmp\2hejw9ly\microsoft.updateservices.reporting.rollup.dll (the random figure / letter directories change). several of these entries logged every minute looks me though sort of installation still trying carry on. though update dont have clue.

anyone have idea where can start looking here?

edit: should have mentioned since failed update no clients have reported wsus server. contact regularly none have reported. did not change after reinstalled wsus. clients have reported in no reports have been received.

hi,

which database did use wsus? windows internal database or sql server?

if use wid, looks installation of wid corrupted, best suggestion uninstall wsus , wid , start scratch.

to uninstall wid after uninstalling wsus, refer kb article:
