Why are some users fast/slow on a terminal server?

i tech support glass cutting company uses own software detailing , tracking of orders based on terminal server. server running windows server 2008 r2. server has intel xeon e5504 , 12gb of ram. there 30 users in terminal server @ 1 time. understand of terminal services (and quite new it) should not require resources of computer using, needs send input , run display. therefore though many of computers quite old shouldn't have effect on speed of remote desktop session. expect terminal server not prioritise sessions on others, should see same speed. unfortunately not true, there users run slower on terminal server others. kind of troubleshooting can done determine cause of this?

my first thought poor cabling have tried replacing cable on 1 of users no effect, , don't know of network diagnostic tools allow me test network speeds specific computers.

any ideas?

hi,

actually, there many causes affect performance of terminal server, including network issue, user experience, device redirection settings, etc.

according post, problematic users handling terminal server connection via quite old pcs. suspect cause may affect user performance, because not use latest  version of rpc connect terminal server.

by improving remote desktop protocol performance in windows server 2008 r2 , windows 7, you’ll see more advantages , features.

to narrow down issue, please following:

1.       use ping command test connection between test client , server when problematic users feel slow. please record response time , let know.

2.       temporarily disable redirections (driver, printers, video, clipboard, etc.) & experience (font smoothing, desktop background, visual styles, etc.) terminal services client , test issue again

3.       temporarily disable anti-virus software or firewall between test client , server. check issue again after that.
