Hyper-V - suggestions

hello,
i need the opinion of those which already have something more experience virtual environments.
i have two physical servers domain controller and sql server. the two servers i to virtualised microsoft hyper-v environment.
i read on the net that the problem is virtualization of domain controller, i wondering how to start the thing.
i'm thinking in direction that put windows 2012 r2 with hyper-v server a workgroup - outside domain. in exposing the two environments virtualizes the old dc and sql.

what you get working, what should look?

how to make backup of virtualized environment?

thank you.

if don't have experience hyper-v environment, don't think should practice virtualizing 2 systems. should start sort of test environment , comfortable first. there's absolutely nothing wrong virtualizing these systems, though.

save lot of grief , join hyper-v host domain. hyper-v host can happily member of domain when hosts own domain controller , if that's domain controller there is. it's not more fragile other single-dc network. nothing bad happen. hypervisor not dependent on except hardware. doesn't know or care domain controller. management operating system start if domain controller isn't running, absolutely every other windows-based computer will. of course, best practice set domain controller auto-start, if forget that, can still log in management operating systems cached credentials or local administrator , start domain controller. "chicken , egg" scenario myth disproven.

you can guests regular computers or can acquire 1 of many hyper-v-aware backup solutions. 2 virtual machines, lot of them have free editions might cover needs. can use built-in windows server backup if want.
