TS Basic Functionality Question

i not professional please forgive basic question.  have installed server 2008 on separate server in order use terminal server.  have 2 purposes server:

1. have employee working in state , want able log in , have desktop applications served her.
2. enable employees able log in home computers access workstation time time.  may want set user account or destktop these employees well, in #1 above.

i have installed , enabled ts role on server.  can access server home right using vpn , remote desktop access.  when this, lists user accounts server.  questions are:

1. assume not using ts right when vpn in , access server.  if so, program use on remote computer find , log ts remotely?  assume not use rda.

2. ts allow multiple users logged in , working on ts @ same time?

i guess have installed ts, looking quick description of mechanics of how work.  thanks!

pwncpa,

first, sounds need reading on terminal services in general in order learn can it, , how work it. glad have visited can give places start education, set off in right direction, , answer of these questions.  here goes:

yes, ts allow multiple users logged in , working on ts @ same time

if not want use vpn, should use (and recommend method) using ts gateway, terminal services "role service", give users access either remoteapps, and/or full desktop environment each user.

with ts gateway can control users can machines.  , means terminal server other windows client machines.

this connection encrypted , uses ssl certificate make secure connection, will need purchase ssl certificate (you can them $30)

in ideal environment, role service installed on machine other terminal server.

in order provide terminal services access to multiple users need purchace ts client access licenses (ts cals), user ts cals (there device ts cals too, think user cals fit need) 1 each user use terminal server.

you need install ts licensing role (you can install on domain controller, or server if have 1 - lightweight , not have housed on terminal server) , buy cals, activate license server, , install cals.

btw, terminal services has been renamed in 2008 r2 version out now. called rds (remote desktop services), dont surprised when see in documentation.
