Weird file renaming permission issues
hi!
we have file rename permission issue. here background:
we created 2008 r2 dfs namespace called userdata read/write share permissions administrators, , system. userdata has been granted ntfs permissions follows:
- everyone (this folder only): traverse folder / execute files, list folder / read data, read attributes, create folders / append data
- creator owner (subfolders , files only): full control
- system (this folder, subfolders , files): full control
- domain admins (this folder, subfolders , files)
we enabled folder redirection users documents folder through gpo, setting following:
- setting: basic - redirect everyones folder same location
- target folder: create folder each user under root path \\domain\userdata
- we unchecked grant user exlusive rights documents.
so, weird behaviour. logged on windows 7 (x64) client computer user gets gpo settings , not local administrator on client. folder redirected expected , can create, delete , write files in anyway want. can rename files if choose entirely different name , if choose longer or shorter file name, but cannot rename file same letters different casing.
examples of work:
- "test" "testing"
- "test" "cool"
- "test" "cool"
examples of not work:
- "test" "test"
- "test" "test"
- "test" "test"
we error: "file access denied. need permission perform action. require permission s-1-5-21-220..... make changes file."
eventhough i'm pretty sure share , ntfs permissions of share correctly set have of course checked permissions when logged in , user has full ntfs control , read/write share permissions.
we have encountered same problem on customer company well, different domain no links our domain ever. have seen similar problems other people when trying find answer on internet. here an example:

anyone have thoughts?

resent discoveries:
- if log onto windows 7 (x86) enterprise face same issues.
- if same user logs on 1 of dfs servers holding namespace , accesses folder experience no problems renaming files.
- customer company states all working fine when user logs on windows xp sp3.
