OLD PDC still in registry of new PDC as SiteServer and NTDS Src Root Domain Srv
our old pdc failed able running long enough demote it, transfer roles , promote new domain controller. our ms utility tests show went , there no errors. however, noticed our file/server backups take 2-3 times long process started looking old name in registries of new pdc , bdc. here's found:
#'s 1 , 2 below both found on new pdc. #2 found on bdc.
1.) hkey_local_machine\system\controlset001\services\licenseservice\siteserver reg_sz <oldpdcname>.domain.com
2.) hkey_local_machine\system\controlset001\services\ntds\parameters\src root domain srv reg_sz <oldpdcname>.domain.com
how fix this? else running fine sure if leave have issues (like slow tape backups).

hi,
domain controller create active directory replication connection objects representing inbounding replication form intra-site replication partners. inter-site replication, 1 domain controller per site has responsibility of evaluating inter-site replication topology , creating active directory replication connection objects appropriate bridgehead servers within site. domain controller in each site owns role referred inter-site topology generator (istg).
so it’s correct here istg point bdc.
we question:
> noticed our file/server backups take 2-3 times long process started looking old name in
> registries of new pdc , bdc
what mean take 2-3 times here? backup fail 2-3 times?
have found error logs or error messages point old pdc?
what backup job you’re performing? backup selection list?
as “awinish” posted: agree dc records not removed perform metadata cleanup , few records still remains , require manual intervention cleanup.
some dc records not removed after metadata cleanup. in case, these records not impact current system.
give feedback above question further troubleshooting.
