Roaming user profiles and home folders - Server 2008
hi
i trying achieve complete roaming user profiles environment. typical scenario user logs-in on pc-1, creates new text document (for instance) in his/hers documents folder , logs-out. logs-in on pc-2 , able view new text document (created on pc-1) in documents folder. preferable if profile travels him pc pc. is, if instance changes desktop background on pc-1, these changes effective on pc-2 well, , forth.
currently server (with complete ad-dc) setup follows:
== folder created locally (on server) user james (\\server\james) - shared - james has 'full control' of shared folder, , no 1 else.
== user james added ad-dc - attribute: 'profile path' set shared folder - \\server\james
== home folder attribute on james profile set local.
unfortunately when log in account on 1 of pc's (added domain), receive notification stating logged in 'temporary account'. also, have picked creates account locally under c:\users\temp (and removes data account @ log-off).
i implementing windows 7 clients, .v1/.v2 problem shouldn't apply environment.
if has guidance on problem appreciate it.
thanks.
hi,
please understand issue caused many factors, such slow link, the user registry hive has been corrupted , first time user has logged on computer, , roaming user profile not available.
before going further, please let me know if users in domain have same issue? if 1 user failed load roaming profile, try recreate profile first see if can work.
at time, suggest try check whether user can connect server contains appropriate roaming user profile file share
- ping computer server's ip address test base-level ip connectivity.
- ping computer server name test domain name system (dns) name resolution.
- use net view command view computer see available shares (this confirms if user has rights access). should able see share name stores roaming user profile.
simultaneously, please check slow network detection data in userenv.log file.
