Impossible buffering times

i setting up streaming media services on new computer school work, replacing low-spec machine has been working faultlessly 5 years.

the old computer runs windows media services on standalone machine running server 2003. have hundreds of wmv files ranging 50 mb 1gig in size average bitrate of 1500mbps. typically buffering on machine 5-10 seconds. can serve dozen files simultaneously without issues.

the new machine runs server 2008 r2 , has higher specs. i have set 2 1gig nics, each different ip address, using standard setup recommended ms 1 hosting default intranet site , other streaming media services. iis , sms 2 roles on server. have not changed default settings.

the requests to streaming media services are made using asx files start this:

<asx version = "3.0">

<entry>

<ref href = "mms://serverx/testmedia"/>

....

however performance bad. on windows media player client, for 100mb file there buffering 1 minute, several restarts, before file obtained.

i appreciate suggestions how might resolve issue. language teacher these days, have background in 2003, reasonably capable of following instructions.

any suggestions gratefully received.

(answering own question)

i have discovered that, in own situation, problem resolved setting "enable fast cache = disabled" publishing points.

enable advanced fast start can continue enabled.
