the app store description microsoft remote desktop 8.0.0 states (among other things):
  • access local files on mac windows applications

i can't see obvious in preferences (unlike remote desktop client 2.1.1) allow me access local drive (i.e. on macbook pro os x 10.9).

am missing simple?

remote desktop services provides users ability access local devices , resources in remote sessions. users can access resources such local drives, printers, clipboard, , supported plug , play devices. referred redirection.

in windows server 2008 , windows server 2008 r2, redirection has been enhanced , expanded. can redirect windows portable devices, media players based on media transfer protocol (mtp) , digital cameras based on picture transfer protocol (ptp).

users can specify types of devices , resources redirect remote computer on the local resources tab of remote desktop connection.

can specify local devices , resources available users remote sessions using connection on rd session host server. can enable or disable redirection of following:

  • drives
  • printers
  • lpt port
  • com port
  • clipboard
  • audio
  • supported plug , play devices
remote desktop services in windows server 2008 r2 supports redirection of additional supported plug , play devices. these additional supported plug , play devices exclude various kinds of plug , play devices supported in other categories, such drives, printers, or smart cards. example, usb thumb drive gets installed drive letter on client computer listed available redirection under drives category, , usb plug , play printer attached client computer redirected under printers category.

if disable redirection of clipboard, example, users connecting remotely rd session host server on connection not able redirect clipboard in remote session, if select the clipboard check box on the local resources tab under options in remote desktop connection. if enable redirection of local device or resource on rd session host server, users still have specify want redirect type of local device or resource making appropriate selection on the local resources tab under options in remote desktop connection.

use following procedure enable or disable redirection of local devices , resources connection on rd session host server.

membership in local administrators group, or equivalent, on rd session host server plan configure, minimum required complete procedure. review details using appropriate accounts , group memberships

to enable or disable redirection of local devices , resources
    • on rd session host server, open remote desktop session host configuration. open remote desktop session host configuration, click start, point toadministrative tools, point to remote desktop services, , click remote desktop session host configuration.

    • under connections, right-click name of connection, , click properties.

    • in the properties dialog box connection, click the client settings tab.

    • under redirection, 1 of following given local device or resource category:

      • select check box disable redirection of type of local device or resource.
    • clear check box enable redirection of type of local device or resource.
  1. click ok.

can configure local devices , resources available users in remote sessions applying group policy settings.
