Ideas for a 3 node Hyper V failover cluster


i looking @ replacing 7 physical servers 3 new ones running hyper v.  are a small organisation of around 200 staff.  planning on moving exchange (all services on 1 server), sql server (live, test , dev) , other services these machines.  understand can use shared storage enable live failover/migration.  have iscsi san enviroment in place confident perform enough our needs.  1 thing concerns me , putting eggs in 1 basket speak storage.  if holding vms on san , san should fail in trouble.  have mpio , redundant paths san plus raid 10 there occasion whole san unit fails.  can snapshot san unit provide failsafe.

what people doing out there cover eventuality?

your san represents spof point out.  have few options here.

1. buy enterprise class san has redundant , hope best, although san still represents spof @ least of of pieces (power, cpu, ram, hba, switch, etc) redundant.

2. array based replication.  buy second san , implement array based synchronous replication have copy of data should san fail.  can integrate wsfc achieve automatic failover in cases.  think emc srdf or hp ca eva for type of solution.

3. host based replication.  implementing host based replication allow synchronous or asynchronous replication of data across wan or lan between storage devices.  gives similar rpo array based replication cost less array based replication can use existing storage devices.  solutions such double-take , steeleye datakeeper fall category.

the biggest challenge csv support many of vendors not support csv @ time.  i've seen netapp demo of replicating , failing on vm on csv, have not seen same on other platforms.
