Error verifying product key while installing Server 2012 Standard

i attempting in place upgrade server 2008r2 windows server 2012 standard (downloaded technet subscription).

i have put in cd while in 08 , ran adprep /forestprep , /domainprep without problem.  ran setup.  comes , asks key.  type in , comes "we couldn't verify product key.  please check installation media".

i did chat tech net conceirge (sp?) , said product key valid.

any thoughts doing wrong?

first, ensure did enter key correctly.  if me, never right first time, , mess second time time time.

ensure key standard 2012 , not else.

try generic key http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612867.aspx

Disconnecting from a Windows Server 2012 R2 file sharing session on a Windows 7,8,10 machine
