Mandatory/Roaming Profile troubles. Errors 1511 and 1521
hi guys,
decided test windows 7 in 1 of our classrooms , @ same time thought update (recreate) our mandatory student profile. mandatory profile used use made before came work @ school, far tell working fine, needed tweaks; went ahead , started making one.
long story short, cannot mandatory profile work or roaming profile work read using 'prevent roaming profile changes propagating server' gpo setting.
environment: windows 2k8 domain controller (not r2), windows 2k8 member servers (not r2) , windows vista enterprise/windows 7 enterprise - although haven't deployed windows 7 lab yet.
have tried lot of different things, read many articles on troubleshooting , setting profiles, i'm here help.
seem few different errors. 1 being before desktop appears like: user profile serve failed logon - cannot load user profile. doesnt log me on temp profile, refuses let me login user.
errors 1511 , 1521, both same. 1521 says either can't find profile, or user doesnt have sufficient privileges access profile; 1511 tells me going use temp profile. have 'everyone' , 'authenticated users' set full control on mandatory profile folder , profile share , still gives me access denied.
have done far fix is:
1. made local user on workstation, setup profile how wanted , used 'copy to...' button in advanced system settings section copy profile server. put 'everyone' people can use profile.
2. same 1, computer joined domain, using domain accounts local profile. tried setting test accounts profile path \\server\profiles\%username% , logging in create roaming profile - didnt work, got first error explained above. instead coped contents of different profile \\server\profiles\username folder. time user logged on, although within \\server\profiles new folder path \\server\profiles\username.v2 . figured saved v2 folder , went ahead configuring user profile settings. used 'copy to' again , copied \\server\profiles\student, setting 'everyone' people can use profile , gave whirl - no luck.
basically, have profile want, sitting on server none of accounts want use properly.
in user objects within ad i'm setting '\\server\profiles\student' profile path. note have ntuser.dat renamed ntuser.man
have tested using same profile, ntuser.dat still intact , apply computer policy 'prevent roaming profile changes propagating server'. doesn't work either.
i'm stuck, have tried few more little things, messed settings etc, still no avail. need working before deploy windows 7 otherwise there unhappy students can't logon workstations.
thoughts, links, suggestions etc appreciated. if need anymore info i'll more happy post it, ask.
