please understand wsd (web services dynamic discovery) technical specification defines multicast discovery protocol locate services on local network.
in windows server 2008, fdp (function discovery providers) uses various providers enumerate discoverable resources. built-in providers netbios, pnp, registry, ssdp, wcn , wsd.

| the netbios provider enumerates netbios discoverable devices using wnet functions. | |
| the pnp provider constructs function instance each functional device object (fdo) installed on system. pnp provider discovers network connected devices (ncd) have been associated system through pnp-x architecture. | |
| the registry provider persists function instances based on resources registered through system registry. | |
| the simple service discovery protocol (ssdp) provider provides function discovery information regarding presence of ssdp devices on network. ssdp provider discovers devices on local subnet and, optionally, other discoverable devices or local network resources. | |
| the function discovery ws-discovery provider provides function discovery information regarding presence of web services devices on network. ws-discovery provider discovers devices across subnets. | |
| wcn provider | the windows connect provider. |
please understand each of these providers runs service. in order stop each registering fdp provider, service must stopped; however, registry cannot stopped. in way, alter discovery method disabling unwanted ones.
in case, don’t recommend manually disabling these services since may cause other potential network issue.
