network printing slow locally

in windows server 2003 have set print server. xp clients in network print via printers included on print server. have 1 problem, locally slow...

first of add new local tcp/ip printer on server , set needed values.
next add network printer on each client computer. here comes problem, if add network printer, fine, on server have made printing preferences template each printer want use.

so when network printer added, inherits settings printserver. , if choose printer in print dialog of document, selected relatively fast(1,5seconds). set inherited template in printing preferences of printer on client computer, takes 8 seconds select printer list in print dialog??

can tell me be? have checked printer sharing options in exceptions firewall allthough firewall disabled. ip's static have checked netbios

if have searched whole google, can't seem find working solution

anyone please can me??

this appears performance related issue, may require debug, dump file analysis. although not best resource on kind of issue, glad provide general suggestion.

 

based on research, issue caused many factors. based on research, list common ones reference:

 

1)some specific network drivers may lead problem. please test on other clients difference nic driver see how going?

 

2)this symptom may occur when use third-party monitors. please perform following steps remove third-party monitors test result:

check following registry key third-party monitors. remove non-default monitors:

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\print\monitors

the default port monitors , ports are:

appletalk printing devices (when services macintosh installed)
bj language monitor
local port
pjl language monitor
standard tcp/ip port
usb monitor
windows nt fax monitor

 

3) known issue windows server 2003 service pack 1 , windows xp service pack 2. please download corresponding hotfixes , install them test result:

 

a print queue's properties dialog box may take 40 60 seconds open in windows xp service pack 2 , in windows server 2003 service pack 1
