When the domain controller locator process happened

hi guys

read lots of articles how domain controller located. , far thougth knew of process, still have question.

1.when dc locator happend ,just start during computer boots ,or started after user press ctrl+alt+del , input username , credential.

2.based on following technet article , step 7, what's the difference between  "if client has found dc in site in dc claims client located" , "if returned domain controller in cloest site " ? , step 8, if domain being quried same domain computer joined, first domain means domain user belongs ? xxx\username ?

hi jacky,

i assume talking article:

active directory: using catch-all subnets in active directory

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/forefront/2009.06.subnets.aspx

>when dc locator happend ,just start during computer boots ,or started after user press ctrl+alt+del , input username , credential.

the dc locator initiates after input domain credentials , press enter.

>what's the difference between "if client has found dc in site in dc claims client located" , "if returned domain controller in closest site "?

“if client has found dc in site in dc claims client located” means client , dc located in same site. “if returned domain controller in closest site” means dc located in closest site found (based on site link cost).

>if domain being queried same domain computer joined, first domain means domain user belongs ? xxx\username ?

yes right first domain means user account tries log on belongs to.

more information you:

enabling clients locate next closest domain controller

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc733142(v=ws.10).aspx

i hope helps.
