Word 2010 Mail Merge Issue: A period ('.') is added before first ....<<merge field>> for every merge

in word 2010 have simple e-mail merge , everytime run record through merge period ('.') added before first merge field.  not visible in email, first name (my merge field) , subsequent fields on line shifted right 1 '.' character.

btw, using adobe acrobat x write .pdf word incapable of producing e-mail merge document desired.

any assistance appreciated.

do enabled “show/hide”? please press keyboard shortcut of ctrl + * (ctrl+shirft+8) check issue still persists.

Disconnecting from a Windows Server 2012 R2 file sharing session on a Windows 7,8,10 machine
