Security Filtering / Authenticated Users change???

for years i've used security filtering limit users network drives mapped (in addition restricting via ntfs permissions) using group policy.  inexplicably week stopped working.  gpresult showed reason denial "inaccessible".  i've removed authenticated users group , added security group needs access.  removed security group , added authenticated users drive map properly.  ended doing workaround adding security group , going delegation tab , clicking advanced limit authenticated users read access, not apply.  therefore security group has access, drive mapped.  reddit helped me https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/1y22nl/trying_to_scope_an_gpo_with_security_filtering/.  i've seen other websites state not remove authenticated users, method has worked me.  weird

curious why stop working of sudden.  windows update?
ms use ok https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc728301(v=ws.10).aspx
