Active Directory D.R. Test

i've been asked test restore of customers a.d. in isolated test environment. have forest root domain couple of child domains below.

all of pcs , normal users in child domains.

in order set test environment, minimum ad data need backed up/restored test user logon , pc connectivity ?

would need setup a server forest root , restore ad from a dc in domain and dc relevant child domain(s) ?  or set server child domain , restore ad ?

thanks

at least, system state dc in each domain - preferably ones holding fsmo/dns roles - starting forest root , proceeding down ad domain hierarchy. need ad cleanup - remove references dcs choose not restore...
in essence, want follow ad disaster recovery guidelines - more info @ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/263532
considering test envrionment, might want take advantage of virtualization. if decide so, take http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/jorge/archive/2005/11/20/105.aspx
