Expanding GPO Management to include Windows 8 Workstations

we have windows xp , windows 7 workstations in our domain, , server 2003 , server 2008 servers. starting testing of windows 8 workstations, , trying understand may need in order apply our current gpo windows 8 workstations, , make new ones windows 8 workstations.

currently manage workstation gpo's windows xp , windows 7 workstations windows 7 "management" workstation using gpmc rsat. not work domain controllers or server's themselves, know our domain , forest functional levels windows server 2003, have server 2008 dc's , don't have server 2012 servers.

i have started adding windows 8 workstations domain, , getting gpo's have not started configuring specific them yet. thinking create windows 8 management workstation, install rsat version windows 8 on it, , use gpmc workstation mange windows 8 specific gpos may have, may want utilize gpo settings/features new windows 8, , maybe mange gpo's apply both windows 7 , windows 8 workstations.

i'm wondering if should work i'm thinking, or if missing more advanced configuration may need done domain able apply gpo's windows 8 workstations our current windows 7/xp. trying avoid having may effect way group policy current works our windows 7/xp workstations, since our main live workstations .

i did see article updating admx files windows 8 / sever 2012, i'm not sure if needed apply settings windows 8 workstations? http://blogs.technet.com/b/craigf/archive/2012/08/28/upgrading-the-admx-central-store-files-from-windows-7-2008r2-to-windows-8-2012.aspx

i understand little admx files , how work gpo's learn more if can point me article explains more them great.

hello,

you're thoughts correct, windows 8 or windows server 2012 can used manage settings before windows 7 , windows server 2008r2.

also central store option 1 go, steps same windows vista , windows 7 before.

one part not forget start ie 10 "internet explorer maintenance" removed gpmc within windows 8.
