How does Remote Domain Join work? Does it use VPN?

i have not tried beta essentials 2012 yet, have been looking @ feature list on official blog.

remote domain join. essentials 2012 allows client machines join server without having inside company network. make easier when working remote users , machines.

how work?  connection done through vpn connection?  remoteaccess?

simplified vpn configuration. essentials 2012 allows customers , configure vpn access servers. client machines configured right connections, allowing users access server resources when working remotely on client machines.

what sort of vpn this?  pptp?

does essentials 2012 support remoteaccess single public ip address?  that's have been hoping for.

yes, remote domain join does leverage vpn behind scenes.  no configuration necessary on behalf of admin/user.

the simplified vpn configuration works end end sstp.  server can accept pptp but you need to ensure incoming tcp port 1723 open on router.

jason, for last question, asking whether vpn can work if server directly connected internet , not through router/nat device?  can clarify scenario here?
