New to Hyper-V and need installation advice

i new hyper-v and want install tesst resource utilization , application uses.  have read lot of documentation either blind or cant see specific procedure installation on active server.  i have a box that i want to convert virtualization server.  has tons of horsepower , resources.  loaded windows server 2008 (with hyper-v mgr) when tried initialize it, got msg telling me need install server.  should have loaded first, second, etc.

dont quite understand asking here.  have "windows server 2008 (with hyper-v mgr)" installed. mean have started hyper-v role?  if have role going, need setup vm.  this, need install media whatever os want put on vm. 

once start role, can create vm's.  creating vm same installation of os on bare bones hardware. not start untill os on there. 

if have not started hyper-v role, first thing want do. go server manager , add hyper-v role. allow start creating vm's.

Disconnecting from a Windows Server 2012 R2 file sharing session on a Windows 7,8,10 machine
