Can we run windows server 2008 on normal computer or there is a special machine?

our company purchasing server box of around 1tb hp or dell, want know can use windows server 2008 on computer or there special machine?

i'd expect dell , hp have made 2008 drivers available of recent server products i'd check manufacturer first.
