Mystery partition and boot configuration
i have system supposed have single volume has installed on windows small business server 2008 std. "supposed have" because somehow new partition has appeared drive letter c: assigned it. partition 2 gb in size, has label "os", formatted fat32 filesystem , appears empty.
the volume supposed have drive letter c: has been bumped d: , result boot configuration no longer valid. when attempt start system message winload.exe missing or corrupt.
i able boot installation disk , manipulate file system on d: (which appears fine). can run commands bcdedit modify boot configuration. if set system start "d:" crashes because installed on "c:".
i tried removing drive letter c: fat32 volume diskpart, , assigning drive letter c: volume should have it. upon rebooting drive letter configuration went way was.
i tried set hidden attribute on fat32 volume, , found doing made d: volume hidden. seems these 2 volumes connected in way, making 1 hidden hides other, , clearing hidden attribute 1 clears other.
any suggestions on how restore system working order? have backup , system image in symantec backup exec system recovery may able fall on, since system seems intact nice working again sorting out has gone wrong disk partition , boot configuration.
sincere suggestions may have.
best regards,
zac
