Creating Servers With Large Amounts of Disk Space

hi all,

i might struggle here point try best.

if wanted start online storage business, selling backup people. in sizes of 20gb,50gb, 500gb of online storage per client. i'm going need serious amount of disk space maybe peta or 2 depending on how big go. considering 10-200 users backing @ time (thats alot of hard disk activity) how going cope this.

what's best way forward, rent dedicated server? need 2,3 maybe more separate dedicated servers? working in harmony? or need 1 monster server work?

i'm looking info possible, not here links don't know i'm searching for.

i guessed if have 1 client in uk , have client in us, client doesn't wanted backing data on server in uk , uk client wouldn't wanted server in obvious reasons. guessed storage machines totally separate main admin machine client info on, or wrong.

i have been working on backup software in c++ works have server/client comms going (just between 2 pc's @ home) testing, i'm considering taking larger scale.

if got far down, reading,

steve

hiya,

proberly important thing consider in remote backup solution network bandwith , customer.

as storage you'd want use storage array - san or nas.

as follow on first, need calculate how long take transfer complete backup, when start work multiple customers. typically 1 of biggest challenges time slot backup window..

usually limitations comes backup system/software how fast can process, how easy manage customers, how many streams, agent based, snapshotting, what storage suppport, multiple/single backup hosts mm.
