problem is... indicated error...
sqlcmd:
':\\.\pipe\mssql$microsoft##ssee\sql\query -i e:\wsusdbmaintenance.sql':
unexpected argument. enter '-?' help.
simply unexpected argument in command string.
sqlcmd -s np:\\.\pipe\mssql$microsoft##ssee\sql\query –i e:\wsusdbmaintenance.sql
as documented in appendix of wsus operations guide
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc708594.aspx
the syntax is:
sqlcmd -s np:\\.\pipe\mssql$microsoft##ssee\sql\query –i <scriptlocation>\wsusdbmaintenance.sql
which appear have...
but yet sqlcmd reporting argument ':\\.\pipe\mssql$microsoft##ssee\sql\query -i e:\wsusdbmaintenance.sql' unexpected argument.
note 'np' ignored on start of value of -s parameter, -i. essentially, @ point, sqlcmd has no argument prefix, doesn't know rest of line. fact np not included in error tells me part : sqlcmd -s np made perfect sense parser, next character encountered after 'np' threw curve. guess there's unprintable character (or possibly space) buried between 'np' , rest of argument.
my first suggestion retype command. syntactically correct printed in wsus operations guide appendix i.
on off chance copied text webpage (rather using copy code hyperlink), suggest using copy code link provided in code block window - copying direct webpage may have introduced unwanted character in text string.
