VM periodically fails with NMI Hardware Failure
i have simple server 2016 standard running hyper-v. no raid, 2 disk, core i7 16gb memory.
virtual machines windows 10 professional v1607 installed gen2 (uefi).
a couple of weeks ago, win10pro uefi vms randomly blue screen nmi hardware failure. there nothing in server logs , nothing i've been able dig far vm. might bs in 5 minutes or 5 hours or 5 days. happened on vm of clean install.
i thought might host hardware, cpu or memory, so i moved vm physical server but the problem came it; periodically.
then stopped happening on both servers 5 days; today happened 4 times in 30 minutes on vm building up. checkpoints win!
all vms worked on in audit mode.
help?
i've been using these boxes 4 years now. server 2008 (core , gui), 2012 , 2016.
exactly reason why should follow leo's suggestion check whether or not hardware supported on windows server 2016. quite common system vendor not support older systems on latest release of operating system. (fyi, responsibility of system vendor certify systems; microsoft provides centralized place people validate systems certified.)
that not implying absolutely not work if not certified solution. means unsupported reason. vendors not certify due issues have found in own testing , deemed not cost effective engineer fix older hardware.
at minimum, make sure downloaded , installed latest bios/firmware/chipset drivers/drivers hardware see if changes anything.
