File server replication setup?

hi,

i have file server (rather server shared folder).

i want implement server (these vm's on hyper-v 2012) , ensure sort of replication between both servers such if change file on 1 server, mirrored other.

would dfs-r? vms running windows server 2012.

thanks

can deploy dfs-r if you're ok numerous drawbacks of technology (non-transparent failover, file version conflicts etc).

sorry butt in here.  non-transparent failover?
have been using dfs-r short time, , had not yet tested failover.  you're saying users notice when there failover, in way?

has been improved 2012?

yes, absolutely. if don't have file opened failover happen transparently , client receive no error. if file opened , read / written instead of failover other node client error fired back. please see:

http://help.globalscape.com/help/wafs3/using_microsoft_dfs_for_failover.htm

happens during failover

in dfs failover, clients attempt access target in referral after 1 of targets fails respond or no longer part of namespace. clients must access domain-based namespace using format \\domainname\rootname. if client accesses domain-based namespace directly on root server (\\rootserver\rootname), root target failover not occur. dfs failover performed when client opens file or folder. if client has files or folders open , attempts read or write them when target server unavailable, application receive failure on operation.

no nothing has been "improved" point of view windows server 2012.

p.s. you'd better check how failover works apps (say doing file copy) avoid "surprise".
